About

The EDUfashion project investigates the potential of active pedagogical approaches to promote the teaching and learning of Mathematics in primary education, integrating STEAM methodologies, problem-based learning, and gamification strategies with teacher professional development.

The research is grounded in the recognition that, although current curriculum guidelines emphasise exploratory, student-centred practices, many teachers continue to face challenges in designing and implementing innovative, contextualised, and pedagogically sound mathematical tasks. In this context, the project seeks to understand how collaborative processes of designing and testing educational resources can support teachers and contribute to more engaging and conceptually meaningful teaching practices.

The study adopts an Action Research methodology using a mixed-methods approach, involving approximately 10–12 primary school teachers and their respective classes from the areas of influence of IPP, IPC, and IPVC. The project is organised into cycles of diagnosis, co-creation, implementation, and reflection, enabling the integration of research and educational intervention.

Data collection includes questionnaires and focus groups with teachers, classroom observation, analysis of students’ work, and interviews/pedagogical conversations adapted to the educational context. This approach seeks to understand both teachers’ processes of appropriation and implementation of the proposed strategies and their effects on students’ engagement and mathematical understanding.

EDUfashion is structured around the pedagogical metaphor “Pick Your Style”, which organises resources and strategies in the form of an open-access digital catalogue, complemented by co-creation workshops and tailored pedagogical solutions developed collaboratively with teachers to address specific teaching needs.

Expected outcomes include the creation and validation of teaching resources and pedagogical guides, the consolidation of collaborative professional development practices among teachers, and the production of scientific knowledge on the integration of active methodologies in Mathematics education. Through the open dissemination of materials and the scientific communication of project results, EDUfashion aims to strengthen the connection between research and educational practice, promote transferable models of pedagogical innovation, and contribute to the development of communities of practice in Mathematics Education.
