The inED (Centre for Research and Innovation in Education) of ESE - Politécnico do Porto, in partnership with Casa Comum/Rectory of the University of Porto and the ILCML (Institute of Comparative Literature Margarida Losa) of FLUP announce the 4th edition of the Seminar: Muses in Action - Thicknesses of [In]Visibility: A force that comes from within, to be held on 26, 27 and 28 October 2023. This 4th edition of the Seminar continues the cycle that began in October 2019, linked to the InED-FCT research project: The [In]Visibility of Women in History: thought, ideas and works, and will include the participation of researchers, artists and authors from various backgrounds.
In the final decades of the 20th century, Gender Studies [in its many perspectives] focused on artistic practices and theories designed, thought up and generated by women. Specific Research Centres emerged, became active and consolidated; research projects, scientific events, cultural and artistic programmes were conceived and publications proliferated in specific journals and volumes. A significant body of emblematic texts has been produced, encouraging further research and bringing together authors from different generations and nationalities in Portugal, as on the international scene.
The women-thinkers-researchers-authors-artists have all (at last) deepened and expanded themes that were previously sparse or dispersed, reflecting their convictions and establishing intentions. However, today, the stereotyped extrapolation of the term ‘women artists’, ‘women-...’ is being questioned, understood by some as limiting or addressing the recognition of work and/or professional activity, in some cases more directed by the recognition of ‘gender issues’ than by the qualification itself.
The programme will be released on 2 October and will be subject to evaluation.
It is planned to publish an e-book and a printed volume, including texts that have undergone double peer review. The full text can be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English, with a maximum of 6000 words. Download the Guidelines at https://www.up.pt/press/
