I hold a doctorate degree in science education from the University of Lisbon. During my Ph.D., I was a visiting student in the Department of Science Teaching at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. I have been disseminating my research in international journals of high impact (e.g., Science Education and Research in Science Education), as well as at international conferences (e.g., ESERA, NARST, and AERA).
My research has been centred on examining students’ ways of thinking in science. A key aspect of my work is understanding how students make sense of phenomena they encounter in the world and how they learn to construct their own explanations by thinking about the mechanisms underlying these phenomena. In addition, I am interested in the role of drawing as a way of thinking and knowing in science.
