he International Colloquium on the History of Education - Rethinking Paths in Education will be held on 15 May 2024 at the School of Education of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

It is impossible to understand education without considering its historical journey and the forms it has taken depending on the material, social and cultural conditions that have surrounded it. However, the evolution of education cannot be translated into knowledge unless it is studied from the perspective of the questions of the present and the results of consistent research are made known to a wide audience, especially those who wish to dedicate themselves professionally to education. This colloquium aims to provide a space for the dissemination of research knowledge on aspects of contemporary education and to stimulate reflections that can contribute to a more consistent understanding of what education has been and can be and how educational dynamics interrelate with economic, social, political, religious and ideological factors and with the ‘living’ forces of the societies in which they take place.

Objectives

To provide reflections on the evolution of contemporary education;

To promote the relationship between research in the field of the History of Education and teacher training;

To encourage contacts between researchers from different institutions and countries;

To disseminate knowledge from recent research in the field of the History of Education.
