Ricardo Jorge Ponte de Matos Carvalhido has a degree in Biology and Geology (University of Minho, 2004) and a PhD in Sciences (Specialty in Geology) from the University of Minho (2012). He was a PhD fellow at the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2005-2012) and dedicated himself to the study of Quaternary paleoenvironmental evolution and the neotectonic deformation of the North Coast of Portugal (Minho-Neiva). He was a post-doctoral researcher at the Geology Center of the University of Porto and at the Center for Environmental and Marine Studies - University of Aveiro, on the topics of paleoenvironmental evolution and tectonostratigraphy using marine geophysics methods (2013-2014). He was responsible for the development of the Viana do Castelo Litoral UNESCO Aspiring Geopark (2016), a project awarded by ProGEO Portugal (2016). He was Councilor of the Viana do Castelo City Council (2017-2021), responsible for Environment and Biodiversity, Science, Innovation, Knowledge and Educational Projects, having been responsible for the development of some paradigmatic projects, namely the Local Natural Monuments of Viana do Castelo (2017), the School Network for Science and Support for Scientific Research (2018), the Network of Infrastructures for the Interpretation of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Aspiring UNESCO Geopark Litoral Viana do Castelo (2021), the Network of Doors of the Geopark Litoral Viana do Castelo (2021) and the Viana do Castelo Urban Ecological Park (2021). Between 2018 and 2021, he developed several initiatives to train the Educational Community of Viana do Castelo in responding to the challenges of Curricular Differentiation and Flexibility. The program developed (2018-2021) was once again recognized by the 2022 Geoconservation Award, awarded by ProGeo. In 2020 he was awarded the National Environment Award Honorable Mention, awarded by the Portuguese Confederation of Environmental Defense Associations, for the relevant services provided to Portugal in the field of Nature Conservation. He is currently Invited Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (ESE) (2015-2017), General Director of the PA Group Training Academy and Scientific Coordinator of the Viana do Castelo UNESCO Aspiring Geopark project. He is a Integrated Researcher at INED (Center for Research and Innovation in Education) at the Higher Education Schools of Porto, Coimbra and Viana do Castelo. He is the author of 2 books and 18 book chapters, and more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
