About

The work of a Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) interpreter, like other occupational activities, is commonly very demanding. However, the pandemic reality seems to have given rise to new challenges, due to the drastic changes made to interpretation work practices. This new context may have exacerbated the level of stress experienced by these professionals and increased their degree of exhaustion and fatigue (burnout). In this sense, the objectives of this study focus on describing the mental health and burnout status of a representative sample of LGP interpreters; identify the determinants of burnout (e.g., years of professional experience; level of training; stress); and identify strategies that minimize the impact of occupational stressors among LGP interpreters.

This is a cross-sectional, quantitative, analytical study, whose data will be collected through a battery of online tests, from a representative sample of LGP interpreters. As expected results for this research, it is intended to determine the state of mental health and the degree of burnout (personal, professional and associated with the deaf person) of this professional class and define strategies to minimize the impact of socio-labor conditions, thus promoting greater satisfaction and quality of life for the Libras interpreter.
