Objectives

The intervention aims to reinforce the training of 26 Cape Verdean Geogebra trainers to obtain level III, from the UniCV centres in Praia and Mindelo, and to carry out pilot training workshops for primary and secondary school teachers in different municipalities on the islands of Santiago and São Vicente, as part of this certification process.

The training focuses on the area of mathematics and the use of GeoGebra software in a STEAM(1) context, as well as the development of practices that contribute to improving student learning, through the training of trainers and initial teacher training and the introduction of GeoGebra software into teachers' practice, through contextualised approaches that establish intra- and extra-mathematical connections.

At the same time, the project has a research component, which is part of the research project "GeoGebra & STEAM - Teacher Training - Teaching and Learning Mathematics in a STEAM context with GeoGebra in Portuguese-speaking Countries", being developed at the Centre for Research and Innovation in Education - inED at ESE-IPP.

Action 3 - Developing teaching experiences in Cape Verdean schools
This work will take place during the 2020-2021 school year on the islands of São Tiago and São Vicente in schools of various levels of education.

3rd training session - 28-31 March 2022

The 3rd face-to-face training session for GeoGebra trainers took place in Cape Verde on 28 and 29 March, Action 2, and the 4th training session of the pilot training workshops for primary and secondary school teachers, from 30 to 31 March, Action 3.

These activities, which took place on the islands of Santiago and São Vicente, are part of the "Project to Strengthen Mathematics Teacher Training in Cape Verde, in a STEAM & GeoGebra Logic", promoted in partnership by the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI) and the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV), with the financial support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and were implemented with the involvement of the GeoGebra Institute at this higher education institution.

In the course of the work on the training of trainers, issues relating to teaching experiences, training workshops and the methodologies for implementing the experiences in the classroom were discussed and reflected on, based on the conceptual model of progressive TPACK - Mathematical Competence, Pedagogical Competence, Technological Competence, Curricular Competence, inspired by Everett Rogers' theory of the Processes of Diffusion of Innovation.

Action 2

These models play an important role in the work strategy of the pilot training workshops for primary and secondary school teachers under development, especially those that took place between 30 and 31 March 2022.

Action 3

The project in question works with maths in an integrative vision of learning and aims to train Cape Verdean GeoGebra trainers to obtain level III and carry out pilot teacher training workshops as part of this certification process. The training focuses on the area of mathematics and the use of GeoGebra software in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) context, an approach to promoting learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics contexts as a starting point to guide students' exploration\investigation, dialogue and critical thinking.

O desenvolvimento de práticas que contribuam para a melhoria da aprendizagem dos alunos, através da formação de formadores e formação inicial de professores e da introdução do software GeoGebra na prática dos docentes, mediante abordagens contextualizadas e que estabelecem conexões intra e extra matemática, também compõem esta formação.
